The Road Home to You

Finding faith in a broken world

Lessons on the Road to Waimea Canyon (transcription)

The Road Home to You

Last October, in 2018, we had the joy of traveling to Kauai, Hawaii. Kauai is called The Garden Isle and for good reason. There isn’t a vista that isn’t covered in lush trees, tropical plants, and blossoming botanicals. Everywhere you turn, you are met with an incredible slice of creation.

We didn’t come by this trip by the usual means. We hadn’t been planning it for years, pinching our pennies and squirreling away vacation time. Rather, Matt’s parents took us as their guests with airline miles they’d acquired. We shared a 1-bedroom condo with a fold-out couch and called ourselves blessed.

When we came home, after the sunburns had begun to heal but the glow of the Hawaiian sun was still lingering, we sat down in the recording studio with a bowl of fresh pineapple and a couple of mimosas and talked about our time in the Aloha State.

Lessons from the Road to Waimea Canyon: God is Awesome!

October 23, 2018
The Road Home to You

Alo-ha!

We’ve been home from Hawaii for a week now and boy, has it been hard getting back into the swing of things!

I, personally, could really get used to island time. Everything is a little slower and richer, somehow. There’s time to savor the moment and really take in the beauty that surrounds you.

That being said, we were so blessed and awed by our time in Kauai, that we want to share a little bit of it with you. Now, I know it’s not as good as actually flying you all there, but we did our best by stocking ourselves up with fresh pineapple and a yummy drink as we recorded this week’s episode. We encourage you to do the same while you listen as we share some of the things we learned while on the Garden Island.

First, I share the beautiful lesson we learned on what “aloha” means. As we were driving up to Waimea Canyon we stopped at a viewing area where there was a native man sharing some of the history and legend of Hawaii. It was the beginning of a profound lesson.

Meanwhile, Matt shares how God shows up in unexpected ways and blesses us in ways we can’t even imagine. Sometimes, that blessing comes in the form of a trip of a lifetime. But always, God is blessing us.

I’m sure I’ll post other pictures either here or on our social media accounts. It’s truly a beautiful place and if you ever have the opportunity to go to Kauai, by all means…GO!

The Road Home to You

Hey y’all! This week is our final episode in the summer mini-series we’ve been doing called “Lessons from the Road.”

Listen to the full episode here

What better way to finish it off than with a road trip with our favorite listeners?

Admittedly, the audio isn’t perfect in this episode, but we had a fun time driving to a local hot-spot, Dodge Park where we got out and sat by the river while we talked about road trips we’ve both taken recently and the lessons we each learned.

Show Notes: “Lessons from the Road to Samaria: A Life on Mission”

August 7, 2018
The Road Home to You

This week we travel alongside Jesus as He makes a quick trip through Samaria where He meets a woman and turns her world upside down.
Listen to the full episode!
Brandy takes us to John chapter 4 and walks us through why Jesus traveling to Samaria was a strange event in the first place and then shows us the significance of what happened there. From the compassion He shows to a woman with a life full of sin to the way that Jesus saw every day as an opportunity to share His message of hope and redemption to the people He encountered, this simple story is chock-full of challenges to us and the way we interact with the world.
Scripture: John 4
At the conclusion, Brandy shares the importance of reading Show Notes. (This very page so if you’re here, congratulations!)

Minisode 1: Lessons from the Road to Damascus – Show Notes

July 10, 2018
The Road Home to You

Welcome to the first mini-episode in our little summer series called “Lessons from the Road.” We’re going to take the next eight weeks and share stories taken from the Bible as well as our own personal lives about lessons learned while on a journey.

Listen to the full episode here

Today we start with Brandy sharing the story of Paul’s conversion on the road to Damascus.

This story takes place in Acts 9:1-31.

To read the transcript that includes the passage, click here.

While many lessons can be gleaned from this portion of scripture, Brandy focuses on the fact that not only was Paul’s conversion from persecutor of the faith to a servant of God swift, but it was loud and proud. Paul made no apologies for his conversion to the faith. Once he met God, there was no denying Him as Lord and Savior.

Listen in on this quick minisode and see if Paul’s boldness is evident in your own life.
